Motor Insurance
Motor Insurance (also called Vehicle Insurance or Car Insurance) is a financial protection plan that covers your vehicle — car, bike, truck, etc. — against loss or damage due to accidents, theft, fire, natural disasters, or third-party liabilities.
Types of Motor Insurance in India
Third-Party Insurance (Mandatory by law)
Comprehensive Insurance
Covers both third-party and own vehicle damages (accidents, fire, theft, etc.). Offers optional add-ons like zero depreciation, engine cover, roadside assistance, etc.
Standalone Own-Damage Policy
Covers only your vehicle’s damage (for people who already have third-party insurance)
How Motor Insurance Works
Choose the Right Policy
Decide if you need Third-Party, Comprehensive, or Own-Damage cover. Compare premium costs, coverage, and add-ons.
Compare Plans & Add-ons
Review different insurers and check add-ons like zero depreciation, roadside assistance, engine protection, and no-claim bonus benefits to get the best value.
Purchase the Policy
Buy it online or from an insurance agent. Provide details like vehicle number, model, registration year, owner’s info, and previous policy (if any). Pay the premium to activate your policy.
Receive Policy Documents
Once payment is made, you’ll receive a policy certificate — proof that your vehicle is insured. Keep a soft or hard copy handy while driving.
File a Claim
You can file two types of claims: Cashless Claim: The insurer directly pays the garage (if it’s a network garage). Reimbursement Claim: You pay first, then get reimbursed by the insurer.
Vehicle Inspection
The insurer sends a surveyor to assess the damage and estimate repair costs.
Repair and Settlement
The vehicle is repaired at an approved garage. The insurer pays the repair amount (after deducting applicable charges like depreciation or deductibles)
Claim Settlement
Once the repair is done and documents verified, the insurer releases the payment (to you or directly to the garage). Claim closed successfully.
